Committee lacks members for new school merger talks
BERLIN, Vt. (AP) — A new committee tasked with drafting an agreement for a new merged school district in Vermont will start its work shorthanded.
Berlin has yet to fill two of the three seats that the community’s entitled to hold on a new five-town district. The Times Argus reports a meeting of the new committee will be held next Wednesday.
The Berlin board did appoint one representative when it met last month, but Chair Chris Winters says he doesn’t believe the town has the members to serve. Berlin has seen a string of resignations this year that has left the town’s five-member board a member short.
Superintendent Bill Kimball says he’s sought legal advice regarding how to proceed if the Berlin board doesn’t appoint a full complement of members, but hasn’t heard back.
