Sossi named San Benito city attorney
SAN BENITO — After working more than three months as interim attorney, former longtime Brownsville city attorney has become the city’s legal counsel.
Earlier this week, San Benito commissioners unanimously voted to appoint Mark Sossi as city attorney.
Other law firms applying for the job during Tuesday’s meeting included attorney Alan Ozuna of Harlingen and Arnold Aguilar of the Aguilar-Zabarte, law firm in Brownsville.
Sossi replaces Ricardo Morado, who commissioners fired on a 3-2 vote in August after serving as city attorney for more than seven years.
Following Morado’s termination, Gomez said Sossi had agreed to work at a rate of $175 an hour — the rate at which Morado had worked.
Sossi had served nine years as Brownsville’s city attorney before city commissioners there fired him in August 2017.
