Victim of Effingham house fire identified

December 17, 2018

EFFINGHAM, S.C. – A woman who died as the result of a house fire on Dec. 11 has been identified.

Mary Beth Harllee, 72, the only occupant of a house on Willow Creek Road, died after suffering smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken said Monday in a news release.

That was result of an autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina.

“Further postmortem tests are being performed before a manner of death is determined,” von Lutcken said.

Von Lutcken said the name of the deceased was not released previously because of an attempt to locate family. That attempt has been unsuccessful.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are investigating the house fire.
