Gifford For

August 23, 2018

Immediately following the 2016 presidential election, I found myself constantly thinking about how culturally rich cities such as Lowell were going to be impacted. The president had frequently painted immigrants as being unconducive towards a successful American society, and there was no doubt that he would carry his hostility towards immigrants into the White House.

I became a fellow on the Rufus Gifford for Congress Campaign because of this particular worry. Working for Rufus has provided me with a sense of hope for the future of immigrants living within America because he has emphasized that immigrants are hardworking individuals who add, not detract, to our society. I have seen how invested Rufus is in making sure that everyone feels heard. It is his commitment to open dialogue which ensures me that he will remember his conversations with those affected by immigration policies when he is in Congress.
