Amex Championship Moving to Ireland
VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) _ Ireland is getting one the World Golf Championship tournaments.
The American Express Championship, one of the four annual WGC events, will be held in 2002 at the Mount Juliet Country Club in Thomastown, about 60 miles southwest of Dublin.
The tournament will be played next month at Valderrama, Spain, where it was also held a year ago, and will move to the Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis next year. The 2002 event will be played Sept. 19-22.
The American Express Championship, which will be played Nov. 9-12 at Valderrama, is a 72-hole, stroke-play event with $5 million in prize money. Tiger Woods is the defending champion.
