Loose rodeo cow causes I-15 crash

September 16, 2018

Cows in a pen at the Idaho State University Rodeo on Saturday night at the Bannock County Event Center in Pocatello. A couple cows escaped from the rodeo early Friday and one sparked a vehicle crash on Interstate 15 near the Pocatello Creek Road exit.

POCATELLO — A rodeo cow that was on the lam early Friday caused a car crash on Interstate 15 near the Pocatello Creek Road exit, Idaho State Police said.

Police said nobody had to be transported to hospital care as a result of the 4:30 a.m. crash.

The cow, however, had to be euthanized, police said. It was one of two rodeo cows that apparently escaped from the Idaho State University Rodeo, which had competitions scheduled at the county’s Pocatello fairgrounds beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the second cow was captured without further incident. Officials with the ISU Rodeo declined to comment.
