HAIKOU, China (AP) _ U.S. diplomats met Tuesday with crew members of a downed U.S. spy plane, an American official said. No other details of the visit were immediately available.

The meeting was the fifth since the U.S. Navy EP-3E spy plane was forced down on China’s southern island of Hainan after colliding with a Chinese F-8 fighter jet.

During the last meeting, on Monday, Brig. Gen. Neal Sealock met with all 24 crew members. He said afterward that the Americans were in good health and high spirits.

U.S. officials have been working toward an agreement for the crew’s release, though they have been so far unwilling to give into Chinese demands that the United States take full responsibility and apologize for the incident.
