Tennessee 74, Austin Peay 65

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Tony Harris scored 14 points and Vegas Davis added 13 to lead Tennessee to a 74-65 victory over Austin Peay Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Vols (4-0) led 38-34 with 14:55 left in the game, but watched the Governors (2-1) fight back to take a 44-41 edge on Jackson’s 3-point play and Joe Sibbitt’s 12-foot jump shot.

The Vols outscored Austin Peay 16-8 over the next six minutes to take a 57-52 lead. Torrey Harris and DaShay Jones combined for eight points in the run.

The Governors pulled to within one on a 3-pointer by Reggie Crenshaw with 5:56 left, but C. J. Black and Davis led a 10-5 run that gave the Vols a 67-61 edge at 2:02.

Tennessee then connected on 7-of-10 free throws in the closing minutes and limited Austin Peay to two free throws by Sibbitt in the final 1:13.

The Governors were led by Crenshaw with 20 points and Jerome Jackson with 19 points.

Davis added nine rebounds and four steals for the Vols. Black scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Vols, who shot just 31 percent from the field, outrebounded Austin-Peay 51-35. Austin-Peay had 16 turnovers.
