December 17, 2018

MILFORD — An alleged domestic squabble in front of the court house led to the arrest of a West Haven man and woman on Friday.

Police report that, around 1 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the area in front of the courthouse, at 14 West River St., on the report of a possible domestic violence incident. They reportedly found Melanie Simmons, 45, and Johnathan Simmons, 24, engaged in a physical altercation with each other. Though they have the same address, the police report didn’t say what their relationship was.

While responding, several officers were allegedly hit in the face by Johnathan Simmons with a closed fist, and police reportedly had to restrain Melanie Simmons.

Johnathan was charged with second-degree breach of peace and three counts of assault on emergency personnel. He was held on a $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Monday. Melanie was charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer. She was released on a promise to appear in court Monday.
