January 18, 2019

STAMFORD — A Norwalk man has been charged in a fatal downtown accident involving an SUV and a motorcycle last September.

The driver of the Jeep, Justin Foley, 18, turned himself in to Stamford police on Friday. He was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle and released on $10,000 court appearance bond.

Foley will be arraigned on the felony charge at the Stamford courthouse on Feb. 1.

Stamford resident Rene Sandoval, 26, was killed in the Sept. 23 crash, which occurred at the corner of Tresser Boulevard and Canal Street.

The 2012 Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on Tresser, trying to turn left onto southbound Canal Street. The Yamaha YZ600 driven by Sandoval was traveling east on Tresser intending to cross the intersection when the bike slammed into the Jeep as it turned onto Canal.

Foley stayed at the scene and cooperated with accident investigators.

Sandoval, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Stamford Hospital where he died of his injuries.
