Montana man gets 18 years for ‘horrific’ sexual exploitation

May 2, 2019

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — A 23-year-old Montana man has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for what a judge called the “horrific” sexual exploitation of young girls via social media.

The Missoulian reports U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen sentenced Tyler Daniel Emineth of Billings on Thursday. He earlier pleaded guilty to one count of child pornography.

Prosecutors say Emineth contacted 348 women and girls on Facebook with solicitations for nude photos or videos. Sixty-three sent images, including 22 juveniles.

Investigators say Emineth threatened to expose some of those images unless the sender recorded themselves in sexual acts with other people. FBI Special Agent Kiffa Shirley testified some girls carried out the encounters arranged by Emineth.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Zeno Baucus sought a 30-year sentence for Emineth’s “mass sexual exploitation” of minors.

Emineth was ordered to complete sexual offender treatment in prison.
