4 hurt in disturbance at state psychiatric hospital
TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — Police say four people were injured during a disturbance at a state-run psychiatric hospital in Taunton.
Police say three staff members and one resident of a unit at Taunton State Hospital by the Department of Youth Services were taken to the hospital after the disturbance at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The building was briefly locked down.
About 20 state and city officers responded to the hospital at the request of staff, but in a statement police said peace had been restored by the time they arrived.
Fire Lt. Greg Galligan, who also responded, told the Taunton Daily Gazette that a juvenile resident “got out of control,” and that the situation escalated when staff tried to get him back into his room.
