Glessner wants to return to county auditors office
A former Somerset County auditor would like to return to her career roots.
Shelley Glessner, 62, of Lincoln Township, has announced she will seek a Democratic nomination for Somerset County auditor.
Glessner, who serves as the Somerset County Democratic Party chairwoman, was a county auditor from 1995 to 2004. Since then she has been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General as a school district auditor. She has been Lincoln Township’s auditor since 2014.
“I decided that it was time for me to return to where my career started in county government in 1995,” she said. “I loved my job. I loved the people. So I just want to come back, give back by working in the county again.”
Glessner said she believes her experience working for the auditor general will aid her in the county office.
“While working for the state, I also became a certified fraud examiner,” she said.
Glessner has been active in the Democratic Party since 1994 and has been a committee member since 1995. Four years ago she ran unsuccessfully for Somerset County recorder of deeds. She has served on the state committee since 2006, was named to the Democratic State Committee executive board and serves as the Southwest Caucus Vice President. She is the fifth vice president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women and a member of the Somerset County Democratic Women.
She has been a member of the Berlin, Garrett and Rockwood American Legion auxiliaries for a combined 60 years. She is a past president of the Harry Fisher Post 445 Auxiliary. She has been a member of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 37 years, Shade Democrats Club for 24 years, Somerset Eagles auxiliary for 14 years and Coalition of Labor Union Women for three years. She was voted the coalition’s outstanding labor honoree in 2013.
She has also been an AYSO soccer referee for 34 years, a PIAA soccer referee for 24 years, a PA West soccer referee for 18 years and Berlin AYSO treasurer for 17 years.
Glessner resides in Sipesville. She has a son, Dusty, and three grandkids.
“I will work hard to make sure that the taxpayers’ dollars are being spent wisely,” she said.
