Red Sox broadcaster’s son objects to DA’s summary
WOBURN, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts judge will hear arguments on a request from the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy to bar prosecutors from releasing a written summary of their case against him in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.
Jared Remy is charged with murder in the Aug. 15 stabbing death of Jennifer Martel at the Waltham townhouse they shared.
The 35-year-old Remy has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
Remy’s lawyer says a “statement of the case” prosecutors want to release is “inflammatory” and serves no purpose except to give a one-sided view of the evidence against Remy.
Prosecutors in Middlesex County routinely file a statement of the case after a defendant is arraigned in Superior Court.
A judge has scheduled arguments Tuesday in Superior Court.
