HONG KONG (AP) _ Mexico’s Rafael Alacron shot a 4-under-par 67 today to take a three-stroke lead over Taiwan’s Yeh Chang-ting after the second round of the Hong Kong Open.
Alarcon, who spent most of the year on the Nike Tour and played in last week’s World Cup in China, had a 10-under 132 total on the Royal Hong Golf Club’s Composite Course. Yeh shot a 67.
Filipino Felix Casas and South Africa’s Andre Cruse were four back. Casas shot a 64 and Cruse had a 67.
American Gary Webb was five back after a 69 and Gary Nicklaus, the son of Jack Nicklaus, was seven behind after a 72.
U.S. star Payne Stewart had a birdie and five bogeys in a round of 75 that left him in a 42nd-place tie at 144.
``It’s kind of the way the year has been,″ Stewart said. ``I hit a lot of good putts, but they just kept lipping out of the hole.″
Scotland’s Sam Torrance was eight back after a 69.
``I’m looking forward to a good day tomorrow,″ Torrance said.
