January 12, 2019

BULLHEAD CITY —Senior midfielder Alyssa Hazlewood scored in the second half unassisted to lift the Lady Dust Devils into a 1-1 tie vs. the host Lady Minataur at Odyssey Institute in Buckeye, Arizona, on Thursday night.

Odyssey scored in the first half by sneaking it past the keeper to the left side.

“In all, I am very happy with how they played; we moved the ball well, just one of those games that we couldn’t find the back of the net — our shots were there, said River Valley High School head coach Ed Marguez by text message. Freshman Summer Sadberry did an amazing job of shutting down their runs and controlling the right side of the defense.

Marquez added that Alondra Castro did “great,” as well, in the middle at distributing and controlling the ball.

The Arizona Intersholastic Association 3A Northwest Region tie put the Minataur’s record at 6-6-2, according to Maxpreps. River Valley’s record is 4-9 overall, 1-0-1 in region.
