State police investigating shooting by sheriff’s deputy
WAYNETOWN, Ind. (AP) — The Montgomery County sheriff’s office has asked the state police to investigate the shooting of a man at a Waynetown home by a deputy.
Indiana State Police say in a release that the shooting occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday after the man allegedly pointed a weapon at bystanders and deputies who responded to a report of a drunk and disorderly person at the home.
The man was being treated Sunday at a hospital in Indianapolis.
Prior to the shooting, relatives and friends of the man left the home on their own or were removed by officers to ensure their safety.
The names of the man and the deputy who fired the shot were not released.
Waynetown is northwest of Indianapolis.
