Family mourning gun victim learns 2nd relative has been shot

July 31, 2018

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York family who’d gathered to mourn a gun violence victim learned that another relative had just been shot and wounded.

Syracuse.com reports that loved ones at the vigil for 36-year-old James Mike screamed and shouted after learning on Monday night that a second family member had been shot in less than 24 hours.

Mike’s cousin, who was not identified, was expected to survive.

The vigil was held in a parking lot where Mike was gunned down late Sunday. His mother lay on the ground as the group prayed around her.

A local anti-violence leader, Clifford Ryan, says the community is “under siege” and “hurting.”
