Cascade Christian rolls past South Umpqua, 52-0

October 6, 2018

TRI CITY — The Cascade Christian Challengers handled the injury-riddled South Umpqua Lancers in a Special District 2 South football game on Friday, winning 52-0 at Kent Wigle Stadium.

Junior quarterback Kiegan Schaan completed 13 of 20 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown, and Elijah Smith rushed for 91 yards on 11 carries with two scores for Cascade Christian (5-1, 2-0 District 2 South), which led 38-0 at halftime.

The Challengers outgained the Lancers (2-4, 0-2), 443-65. Freshman Caj Simmons was a bright spot for S.U., rushing for 52 yards on 20 attempts. Lancers coach Steve Stebbins said inside linebacker Azpyn Roberts played well defensively.

“If anyone beats them in this league, I’ll be shocked,” Stebbins said of the Challengers, the defending 3A champions. “They’re a very good football team.”

The Lancers lost two more starters — outside linebacker/H-back Christian Allen and linebacker Wyatt Martin — to injuries, Stebbins said.

South Umpqua hosts Hidden Valley next Friday in its homecoming game.
