Barbara Stanwyck Celebrates Her 80th Birthday
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) _ Barbara Stanwyck, the veteran of 88 movies and more than 200 television shows, celebrated her 80th birthday Thursday as she has lived her life - privately.
She has always refused to make a fuss over birthdays and had no plans to change that Thursday, said her press representative, Larry Kleno.
″Some of her friends will drop by fr a short visit. Some have already been,″ Kleno said.
″Because of her back ailment there will be no celebration whatsoever,″ he said. ″She is feeling good, though.″
Miss Stanwyck, who has spent much of this year laid up with fractured vertebrae, never falsified or concealed her birthdate, unlike many stars.
Miss Stanwyck made her last stage appearance in April, leaving her hospital bed to accept the prestigious American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award.
She has been nominated four times for Academy Awards and received a special Oscar in 1982 for her lifetime of work. She won three television Emmy Awards, two for her starring role in the series ″The Big Valley″ in the late 1960s, and another in 1983 for the miniseries ″Thorn Birds.″
