Waitress’ Death May End Rodman Suit

January 16, 2002

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ A cocktail waitress who contended Dennis Rodman fondled her has died of a heart attack, possibly ending her lawsuit against him.

Gloria Chapa, a 62-year-old waitress at the Las Vegas Hilton, was found dead at her home Sunday. An autopsy confirmed she died of a heart attack, the Clark County Coroner’s Office said.

A judge scheduled a Feb. 4 hearing to consider dismissing the case, said Corey Eschweiler, a lawyer for the former NBA star.

Chapa’s lawyer, David Pancoast, said he might try to pursue the lawsuit for the woman’s estate. She had sought more than $1 million in damages.

Chapa sued in July 1999, contending Rodman pinched and grabbed her breasts a year earlier and that the hotel tolerated his behavior. She was the fourth woman at the hotel to make such accusations against Rodman.
