LB McDonald Signs With Bears

May 13, 1998

CHICAGO (AP) _ The Chicago Bears on Tuesday signed free agent linebacker Ricardo McDonald to a two-year free-agent contract.

McDonald started 12 of the 13 games he played for Cincinnati last season. He was the Bengals’ top tackler through nine games until a knee injury limited his playing time.

The 6-foot-2, 248-pounder had five sacks in both 1995 and 1996. McDonald, who played at the University of Pittsburgh, has played both inside and outside linebacker in his 88 NFL games.

The Bears also signed defensive back Jim Cantelupe, who finished playing for Army in 1995 and served his required two years of military service after leaving West Point.
