Lawrence officer cleared of attack on bar patron

February 18, 2015

LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — An internal investigation has cleared a Lawrence police officer who punched and pepper sprayed a woman after he said she hit him in the face outside a city bar.

Acting Police Chief James Fitzpatrick says Officer Claudio Camacho acted in compliance with state law and department policy.

The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/17pPppo) reports that the police investigation determined that the woman, Yanil Henriquez, instigated the confrontation with police and refused orders to move from the front of a bar in March 2013. The police report says the woman struck the officer when he tried to handcuff her.

Henriquez has filed a federal lawsuit against Camacho and the city. She alleges she was thrown to the ground and hit her head on the pavement. She is seeking $750,000. Charges against her were eventually dismissed.
