Fitchburg Relay Team Sets School Record
ROXBURY -- The Fitchburg High School girls placed 15th as a team and the boys took 22nd at the Division 2 state championship track meet at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday.
Leading the way for the girls was senior Emerson Scott, who placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 9.02 seconds. The 4x200-meter relay of Olamide Bamgbose, Wonuola Ashaju, Emerson Scott and Elle Scott also placed fourth with a time of 1:48.44, and in doing so broke the 16-year-old school record held by the team of Martha Oliver, Crystal Andy, Oly Wirtz and Kate Guenette.
Other top performances for the Fitchburg girls included Ashaju (10th, 300, 43.63; 11th, long jump, 15 feet, 10 inches), Bamgbose (18th, long jump, 15-2.5; 22nd, shot put, 27-8.75); and the 4x400-meter relay of Emerson Scott, Lina Kherallah, Olivia Tran and Elle Scott (13th, 4:28.45).
For the Fitchburg boys, senior Evans Oduro scored all six of his team’s points, placing fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.80 seconds and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 7 inches.
