Trial date set for man arrested in connection with Danbury sex ring

January 9, 2019

DANBURY - A millionaire race track owner charged with conspiracy in a sex trafficking ring that preyed on vulnerable young men will begin his trial at the end of the month.

Bruce Bemer, the owner of the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, is also being sued by victims claiming he had unprotected sex with them while he knew he was infected with HIV.

The 65-year-old Glastonbury businessman is one of three men arrested in 2017, who were accused of trapping young men in a predatory cycle of cocaine addiction, prostitution and threats of death.

At least two of the 15 victims had developmental disabilities, according to prosecutors.

Bemer, who is free on $500,000 bail, did not appear with his lawyer in Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday. His trial was set for Jan. 31.
