Four Escape From Louisiana Prison
ANGOLA, La. (AP) _ Four convicted murderers escaped Sunday afternoon after tying up another inmate and a worker at the state prison.
Two of the men were captured but one of them shot himself in the head upon arrest, said Cathy Jett, a spokeswoman for the Louisiana State Penitentiary.
The other two, Donald Wooley and Jerry Davis, were still at large but thought to be contained to the area, she said.
Darrel Crider and Roy McFall were caught shortly after the 2 p.m. escape,
``Upon apprehension, one of them shot himself in the head,″ Ms. Jett said. ``He said he would rather die than go back to prison.″
Ms. Jett did not identify the prisoner, who was taken to a New Orleans hospital, or know how he got a gun.
Ms. Jett said each of the men was serving life sentences for murder.
The men who were tied up during the escape were not harmed, she said.
