Celtics Defeat Pacers, 88-80

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) _ Vin Baker had seven points and four rebounds in the fourth quarter and finished with 11 points as the Boston Celtics beat the Indiana Pacers 88-80 in a preseason game Saturday night.

Paul Pierce scored 17 points, and Kedrick Brown and Antoine Walker joined Baker with 11 points for the Celtics, who picked up their second preseason victory.

Al Harrington scored 17 points for the Pacers, who had five players in double figures.

Baker and Mark Blount scored on consecutive dunks, and Baker followed with a baseline jumper to give the Celtics a 76-68 lead with about seven minutes left.

Indiana’s Carl English, who finished with 11 points, hit a 3-pointer to lift the Pacers within three, 80-77, with 2:40 left.

Omar Cook hit two free throws to pull Indiana within three with 19 seconds left, but Brown hit a free throw to help seal the win.

Indiana capitalized on sloppy play by Boston to build a 10-point lead in the first quarter.

Two 3-pointers by Walter McCarty and two free throws by Baker helped give Boston its first lead at 35-34.

A dunk by McCarty made it 41-36 and Boston took a five-point lead into the break.

Mike James hit a 3-pointer to give Boston a six-point lead early in the third quarter, but two jumpers by Harrington lifted Indiana within 52-51.

A 3-pointer by English gave Indiana the lead, but two free throws by Pierce and a jumper by Brown started a 12-5 run at the end of the third, and Baker kept the Celtics ahead in the final quarter.
