VICE PRESIDENT-CHRISTMAS

WASHINGTON _ Christmas at Vice President Mike Pence’s official residence literally jumps out of the pages of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Every room on the main floor of the Naval Observatory represents a verse from the poem by Clement Clarke Moore, officially titled “A Visit from St. Nicholas.” Pence has a family tradition of reading the holiday classic to his three children every Christmas Eve even though they’re adults now and the gang includes a daughter-in-law. MICHIGAN PIPELINE

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. _ A new state panel could give final approval to a proposed oil pipeline tunnel beneath a crucial section of the Great Lakes. The Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority is scheduled to meet for the first time Wednesday in St. Ignace. Will be updated from 1 p.m. meeting. Photos.

_ BURGLARY SUSPECT-POND DEATH: Indianapolis police say a burglary suspect died after he ran from officers and dove into an icy pond.

_ SOUTH BEND-ABORTION CLINIC: Indiana officials say they rejected a nonprofit’s request to open an abortion clinic because necessary information wasn’t disclosed on an application.

_ POLICE SHOOTING-INDIANA: Authorities say a man has died following an exchange of gunfire with police in western Indiana. The Tribune-Star reports an autopsy is planned on the body of the 24-year-old man who died Tuesday night in Terre Haute. His name wasn’t immediately released.

_ COUNCIL MEMBER-PAY: The Indiana attorney general’s office is seeking to recover about $133,000 collected by a Gary City Council member who also had another government job.

_ LOUISVILLE-DANCE TEAM-COACH: A termination letter released by the University of Louisville says dance team coach Todd Sharp was fired for financial misconduct. The award-winning coach featured in Lifetime’s “So Sharp” also resigned his position at Indiana’s Floyd Central High School.

_ CASH FOR LEAVES: Trees have dropped cash in an Indiana county. Elkhart County distributed thousands of dollars Tuesday to church groups and community organizations for collecting tons of leaves.
