Campus clippings: Saint Vincent’s Greene earns All-PAC cross country honors

The PAC Cross Country Championships were contested at Greene County Airport.

Saint Vincent junior Will Greene took off.

Greene finished sixth with a time of 27 minutes, 53 seconds to garner first-team All-PAC honors.

Second-team recognition went to three Bearcats runners, including junior Tyler Laughery (Norwin), who was eighth (28:00); junior Eli Urban, ninth (28:07); and sophomore Frankie King (Greensburg Salem), who was 10th (28:10).

Women’s soccer

Seton Hill

Senior forward Emily LoPresti was named to the All-PSAC first team for the second consecutive season. LoPresti had six goals and six assists as the Griffins reached the PSAC playoffs for the second straight season. She finished her Griffins career with 40 goals.

Second-team all-conference picks from Seton Hill included senior goalkeeper Jessica Neill, junior forward Italia Biondi (Penn-Trafford) and junior midfielder Amy Lynch, who is from Scotland.

Biondi led the Griffins with 10 goals and 23 points.

Neill was 11-5-1 this season with six shutouts and a 0.93 goals-against average.

Women’s volleyball

Grove City: Senior Laura Buchanan (Norwin) moved into third place on the program’s kills list with 1,197. Grove City will be the No. 5 seed in the PAC playoffs.

Penn State Behrend: Senior setter Lexi Irwin (Hempfield) dealt 34 assists and added seven kills as the Lions (18-9, 8-1) topped Pitt-Greensburg, 3-1, to claim the AMCC regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

Seton Hill: The Griffins (18-8, 11-4) have clinched a berth in the PSAC playoffs. An important win came Saturday when the team downed East Stroudsburg, 3-0. Sophomore Viktoria Farian had 12 kills, redshirt junior Leah Bisignani (Greensburg Central Catholic) added nine kills, an ace and two blocks, and sophomore Taylor Sabol (Norwin) had 30 assists in the win.

Women’s cross country

Grove City: Senior Mackenzie Tressler (Greensburg Salem) finished 19th in 25:45 at the PAC Championships to earn all-conference honorable mention honors.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Laura Aston (Hempfield) placed ninth at the PAC Championships. She crossed the finish line in 24:51 to earn All-PAC second-team recognition.

Three area freshmen also placed at the meet: Emma Andrasko (Greensburg Salem) was 22nd (25:54), Jessica Gibson (Norwin) 23rd (25:58) and Sydney Green (Latrobe), 27th (26:03).

Women’s basketball

IUP: Senior guard Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg Central Catholic) scored 23 points for the Crimson Hawks in a 72-50 exhibition loss at Ohio State to open the season.

Point Park: Sophomore guard Michelle Burns (Hempfield) had 15 points in the Pioneers’ season-opening loss to Michigan-Dearborn, 72-51.

Women’s swimming

Cal (Pa.): Junior Karley Owens (Latrobe) won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.32 against Fairmont State.

Gannon: Senior Courteny Hubert (Norwin) contributed to three winning races at the Westminster Relays: the 400-yard medley relay (4:14.22), 200 medley relay (1:42.04) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.89).


Pitt-Johnstown: Junior Chris Eddins (Greensburg Salem) begins the season ranked No. 4 at 149 pounds in the NCAA Division II Coaches Association Preseason Poll. Eddins won a national title last season at 141 pounds and finished 24-2.

Junior Devin Austin (Penn-Trafford), meantime is No. 5 at 165, and Seton Hill transfer Joey Alessandro (Hempfield), a senior, is No. 6 at 141.
