Suspect who attacked deputy dies during LA County arrest

February 4, 2018

PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say a suspect who attacked a deputy died while being taken into custody. Investigators have not immediately determined the man’s cause of death.

Deputy Wally Bracks says the man was wanted on suspicion of making criminal threats. He was located Saturday afternoon in the backyard of his home near Lake Los Angeles.

Bracks says after initially complying with orders, the suspect punched a deputy. When the deputy fell to the ground the man continued to attack.

City News Service says after a stun gun was unsuccessful in subduing the man, neighbors helped deputies take him into custody.

Bracks says the man’s breathing became labored after he was in handcuffs. Deputies and then firefighters performed CPR but the man died at the scene. His name was not released.
