Boil water advisory effective today in Johnstown area

A boil water advisory is effective today for customers of Valley Public Service Authority in the Johnstown area who experienced interruption in water service or low water pressure.

Areas include Pinegrove Road, Old Chavous Road, Bailey Drive, Sapp Drive, Divine Drive, Scottsville Road, Pepper Branch Road, C C Camp Road, and Storm Ranch Road, according to a release by Calvin Smith, the General Manager of Valley Public Service Authority Water System.

The release advises people in these areas to “vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking, until further notice.”

Additionally, ice made from water not previously boiled should not be used, according to the release.

The release also states that their has been no confirmation of system contamination, but the potential for contamination still exists.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) is currently working with Valley Public Service Authority on the issue, according to the release.
