Cody Ayers — Boys golf

Last Thursday, Lake Havasu’s No. 2 golfer, senior Cody Ayers, shot a 39 over nine holes at Sundance Golf Club in Buckeye to take first place in the Knights first match of the season.

Havasu ended up winning the match as a team over Glendale Apollo and host Buckeye.

According to Ayers, the 39 was his lowest score he has shot in a competitive match.

“I felt good that day,” Ayers said. “I was kind of scared to play at the No. 2 spot. Only because last year I was at the bottom. But I worked over the summer to move up.

“I had a few mistakes on the putting green that day. I wasn’t used to the greens. They were kind of fast. But otherwise, I was playing phenomenal.”

Despite having three bogey’s in Buckeye, Ayers was able to par the other six holes to come out on top.

Jacob Schafer — Football

Senior Jacob Schafer had three touchdowns and 104-yards over five receptions in Lake Havasu’s 34-14 win over Lee Williams in Kingman last Friday.

Two of the touchdowns came off of receptions and the other off a 80-yard kickoff return.

Last year Schafer had only five touchdowns all season. This year, after one game, has more than half.

“That is the most touchdowns I have had in one game,” Schafer said. “I couldn’t have done it without my blockers on the kickoff and the quarterback getting me the ball. I’m already ahead of my game from last year, but I couldn’t have done it without my team. “

After one game, the senior is averaging 20.8-yards per catch.

Schafer also had one 25-yard completed pass against the Volunteers.
