The 11th Congressional District parade set for 10:30 Monday morning

The 47th annual 11th Congressional District Community Caucus Festival will kick off with a parade at 10:30 a.m. Monday at A.J. Rickoff Elementary School, 3500 East 147th St., Cleveland.

The parade will proceed down Kinsman Road and end at Luke Easter Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Cleveland.

Ariane Kirkpatrick, chairwoman for the event, has been involved with it since she was a teenager. She has chaired the event since 2006, after being asked by the late U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

“I’ve been involved for years,” said Kirkpatrick. “I had my own vendor booth, as a teen, and had lots of visitors, but only sold three of my self-made poetry books.”

U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge, Democrat of Warrensville Heights, is serving as grand marshal. Richard Cordray, Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, will appear at the festival. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson is also expected to attend.

There will be activities for children, and vendors will be selling jewelry and clothing. Voter-registration assistance will also be available. Kirkpatrick said these types of events are essential to the community. “It’s great for the people to meet the politicians face to face. Residents look forward to this parade each year,” she said.
