Execs Wife Charged in Dominican Republic
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) _ The estranged wife of an American executive was charged Monday with his murder, along with three men she reportedly said she hired to give her husband a scare.
Craig Hiserote, 55, was shot by two men on a motorcycle as he drove home from work Thursday in the southeastern Dominican town of San Pedro de Macoris.
His estranged wife, 25-year-old Yudelka Martinez Diaz, told investigators she paid a man $440 to hire two hitmen, said police Gen. Simon Guerrero Castillo, who is overseeing the investigation.
``She said she just wanted to give her husband a scare,″ Guerrero said.
William Javier, a 31-year-old Dominican, was charged with murder along with the two alleged gunmen, Ramon Mercedes Beras and Jorge Andres Ozoria, both 18.
Martinez, who is Dominican, could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted. She and Hiserote were separated and had filed for divorce, police said.
In April, Martinez was arrested and charged with attempted murder after she shot a woman walking with Hiserote, Guerrero said. The woman was injured in the leg. Martinez released on bail pending her trial.
Hiserote was general manager of a Cogentrix Energy Inc. power plant in San Pedro de Macoris, where he had lived for about three years. Authorities have not released his hometown.
Congentrix, based in Charlotte, N.C., sells power to a local utility for distribution throughout the Dominican Republic.
