AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ Rasche Sumpter returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown as Toledo scored 17 points in the second quarter to beat Akron 27-10 Saturday.

One week after Akron (0-3) lost by only three points to No. 19 Virginia Tech, the Zips couldn’t overcome two second-quarter turnovers that turned into points for Toledo (1-1).

On Akron’s first drive of the second quarter, Sumpter intercepted Willie Spencer’s pass at the Zips 46 and returned it all the way to the end zone to give Toledo a 10-3 lead.

On the second play of the ensuing possession, backup quarterback Mike Junko had a pass picked off by Mark Herron, who ran it 10 yards to the Akron 4. Fullback Lem Reynolds ran it in from there to give the Rockets a 17-3 lead.

Ryan Klaer added a 24-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in the quarter for a 20-3 halftime lead.

Akron couldn’t recover.

Jamie Stidham kicked a 48-yard field goal with 2:28 left in the first quarter to tie the game 3-3.

Ryan Huzjak was 11-for-19 for 89 yards for Toledo, hitting James Spriggs three times for 53 yards. Kevin Kidd led the Rockets in rushing with 86 yards on 16 carries.

Yasin Reeder had 17 carries for 50 yards for Akron.
