WESTCONN ROUNDUP Calamita catches three TD passes as WestConn tops Salve Regina
NEWPORT, R.I. — Austin Calamita caught 10 passes for 150 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Western Connecticut State University football team defeated Salve Regina 40-21 Saturday night.
Calamita scored on throws from David James of nine and 30 yards, and from Thomas Walsh of 16 yards. James completed 19 of 32 passes for 305 yards and the three touchdowns. Walsh completed four of seven passes for 45 yards. Khalil Patterson rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Duane Gary ran for a touchdown for WestConn (3-0) and Troy Thomas returned an interception 60 yards for a score, the Colonials’ third pick-six in as many weeks.
Kevin Maxen led the Colonials with nine tackles, and Haywood Alexander Jr. and Derek Jones each had seven.
DANBURY — WestConn chalked up two victories on Saturday, beating Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth in three sets and Mount St. Vincent in four.
Against UMass Dartmouth, Skylar Kellam recorded 15 assists for WestConn (8-6, 2-0 LEC) and Nicolina Chenard added 11. Kamari King tallied 11 kills and nine digs and Jenna Pisano had 18 digs.
Against Mount St. Vincent, King notched 17 kills and 11 digs, Kellam collected 21 assists, Chenard added 16 assists, Pisano added 20 digs and Victoria Korzan chipped in with 20 digs.
CROTON ON HUDSON, N.Y. — The WestConn men finished 16th at the Fred Pavlich Invitational, hosted by Bard College. Dominick Curra led the Colonials in the eight-kilometer race, placing 88th out of 145 runners (35:10.40). Aaron Campos finished 104th (37:47.90), followed by Alejandro Valsquez, Kitt Sathong and Ian Lachowski. Hannah Hirsch led the three WestConn women in the six-kilometer race, placing 82nd (31:38.2).
RUTLAND, Vt. — WestConn stands in sixth place after one day of the Castleton Invitational. Giovanni Luongo led the Colonials, shooting an 85, which was good for 10th place. Marco DiNardo carded an 89. Castleton leads the team standings heading into Sunday’s final tound with a score of 322.
BOSTON — Kaleigh Panek and Jasmine Grey each scored a goal for the Colonaisl in a 3-2 loss at UMass Boston. Bailey McCollum assisted Grey’s goal, which trimmed WestConn’s deficit to 3-2, but the Colonials couldn’t net the equalizer.
PLYMOUTH, NH. . — Jacalyn Doerwald, Melissa Krim and Allie Noteware each scored a goal as WestConn defeated Plymouth State 3-2. WestConn goalkeeper Neve Manion made four saves.
