Motorist stops, takes keys from wrong-way driver
CASCADE TOWNSHIP – A Rochester woman was arrested early Monday after a fellow motorist took her keys after she was spotted driving the wrong way down Broadway Avenue North.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of Broadway Avenue North and Windbreak Court Northeast about 12:15 a.m. Monday.
The caller reported to dispatch that a vehicle had been driving straight toward him, heading south on Broadway Avenue North, according to Capt. Scott Behrns. The caller said he was able to get the car to pullover and took the keys out of the ignition before calling the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, they found a woman, later identified as 55-year-old Susan Kirckof, sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked southbound in the northbound lane of Broadway Avenue North, Behrns said.
Field sobriety tests were conducted and deputies determined Kirckof was under the influence of something other than alcohol, Behrns said. A warrant was obtained so deputies could take a blood sample.
Kirckof could face a charge of felony driving while under the influence as well as a charge of driving after revocation.
