San Antonio Rampage top Iowa Wild in shootout

Jordan Kyrou and Austin Poganski scored in a penalty shootout to lift the San Antonio Rampage to a 4-3 win against the Iowa Wild on Friday at the AT&T Center.

The 2-1 win in the shootout improves the Rampage to 11-15-1, while the Wild are 14-6-7.

San Antonio scored twice in the opening five minutes of a dominant first period. Nikita Soshnikov tallied at 3:42 before Trevor Smith found the back of the net just 29 seconds later. The Rampage outshot the Wild 18-3 in the period.

Iowa started its comeback effort in the second, outshooting the Rampage 12-5 with Gerald Mayhew scoring the period’s lone goal in the final two minutes.

Iowa drew even early in the third on a goal by Colton Beck, then pulled ahead for the first time when Justin Kloos scored at 14:17. But Soshnikov answered for the Rampage with his second goal only 39 seconds later, evening the match at 3.

Soshnikov also added an assist, while Kyrou assisted on all three Rampage goals. San Antonio outshot Iowa 35-27. Rampage goalie Ville Husso made 24 saves against 27 shots, while the Wild’s C.J. Motte stopped 31 of 34 attempts.

The Rampage host the wild in a rematch at 3 p.m. Sunday.
