‘Regulate...G Funk Era’

Released: June 7, 1994

Label: Def Jam Recordings

“Regulate...G Funk Era” was the debut album from West Coast hip-hop pioneer Warren G.

After debuting at No. 2 on the US Billboard Top 200 Chart, the album went on to sell over three million copies in the U.S. and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The album features title track “Regulate,” one of the more recognizable, “old-school” rap songs.

With the addition of the smooth voice of Nate Dogg (who died in 2011 at the age of 41 due to complications from multiple strokes), listeners can somewhat ignore the gang action depicted in the song, by zoning in on Dogg’s vocals.

The title track also appeared on the soundtrack for the 1994 sports film, “Above the Rim.”
