Stocks Edge Slightly Higher

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices have started narrowly higher on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones industrial average is ahead 16 points. Gainers and losers are evenly split on the New York Stock Exchange.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is up two points. Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index has added one point.

Wall Street is starting today’s session in much the same way it finished yesterday’s trading.

The market has been unable to put together any sort of broad-based advance for nearly two weeks as a variety of negative news items keep investors cautious.

There are no significant economic reports today that might spark a move for equities.

In the corporate corner, Manugistics warned about weak revenues. The stock is poised for a large decline in price today.

Wal-Mart has managed to top estimates for its May sales performance.

And, WorldCom is being bid higher after a report the company plans to cut more jobs.
