Pepper spray used to break up fight at Wake Forest Middle
A Wake Forest Middle School student was pepper-sprayed Friday afternoon as a school resource officer tried to break up a fight in the school cafeteria, officials said.
The fight started between two students during the seven-grade lunch period. Wake Forest Middle staffers tried to break it up, but the fight escalated, officials said.
The resource officer then stepped in and used pepper spray to restrain one of the students, officials said.
The cafeteria was evacuated so no other students were affected by the pepper spray, and students were sent to their elective class, officials said.
The student who was sprayed was taken to WakeMed for treatment.
School administrators and Wake County Public School System security staff were investigating the altercation to determine if any violations of school board policy occurred.
