A celebration of life for Connie Smith, 81, formerly of Norfolk, will be 1-4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at Centreville Baptist Church in Centreville, Va.
Connie was born in Lubbock, Texas, on Sept. 19, 1936, and moved to Amarillo, Texas, when she was young. There, she graduated from both high school and Amarillo Junior College.
She married Clyll Ray Smith on Nov. 23, 1956, after his return from serving in the Korean War.
Connie and Clyll’s only daughter, Stephanie Suzanne Smith Somers, was born on Oct. 2, 1964, in Amarillo, as well.
Connie and her family moved from Amarillo to Albuquerque to Omaha to Norfolk, where she became a skilled golfer and further honed her bridge skills. In 1986, she and her family moved to Palestine, Texas, where she lived for 20 years before joining her daughter in Virginia in 2007.
She leaves behind her daughter, Stephanie; her son-in-law, Tom Somers, and three grandchildren, Duncan Bennett, Claire Catherine and Luke Everett Somers.
Connie was a wonderful spouse, mom, grandma and friend. We will miss her dearly, but are at peace knowing she is now with our Lord.
