NP softball outslugs Constantine

Karissa Gilpin (two doubles) and Lauren Fadke each drove in four runs as New Prairie outslugged Constantine (Mich.) 15-11 in six innings in softball Saturday. Kylie Briner also knocked in a pair.

La Porte Baseball Summer Camp in June

The La Porte Slicer baseball coaching staff and players will conduct the annual summer baseball camp June 10-June 13 for students currently in Kindergarten through fifth grade, at Schreiber Field. Times are: K-second grade, 10-11:25 a.m.; and third-fifth grade, 11:30 a.m.-12:55 p.m. Cost of the camp will be $40 per player. Players should wear tennis shoes or cleats, shorts, sweat pants, or baseball pants and a T-shirt. Players should bring baseball gloves. Instructors will be La Porte High School baseball players and coaches. Registration due date is June 4. Players will receive a T-shirt, but they can’t assure T-shirt sizes on late registrations. Slicers’ Kievert earns award and grant

La Porte girls basketball student manager Jennifer Kievert was one of seven student managers in the state to be awarded a Marion Crawley Award. The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association presents a grant of $750 to each recipient in the names of Marion Crawley, Junior Mannies and Pat Aikman. Criteria for the Crawley Scholarship includes achievement in basketball, achievement in academics, participation in extracurricular activities and service to one’s school and community.

Plymouth Baseball Sectional information

La Porte’s baseball team will face South Bend Riley in a Class 4A Plymouth Sectional opener on May 22 at 5 p.m. That’s the only game that night. On May 23, South Bend Clay meets South Bend Adams at 5 p.m., and Michigan City plays Mishawaka on May 23 at about 7 p.m. at Plymouth. The first semifinal is May 25 at noon with the host Pilgrims facing the La Porte/Riley winner with the second semifinal at roughly 2:30 p.m. May 25. The final is set for May 27 at 5 p.m. Cost of a ticket is $6 per session or $10 for a season ticket.

Area baseball sectional pairings

The area baseball sectional draw was announced by the IHSAA on May 5. La Porte faces South Bend Riley in a Class 4A Plymouth Sectional opener, and Michigan City plays Mishawaka at Plymouth in another opener. New Prairie meets John Glenn in the first round of the Class 3A Mishawaka Marian Sectional, while three-time defending sectional-champion South Central faces Argos in a Class A South Bend Career Academy Sectional opener. LaCrosse plays Triton in another opener at South Bend Career Academy, and Marquette meets the host Senators in a Class A Washington Township Sectional opener. In the same sectional at WT, Westville faces Gary 21st Century. Sectionals run May 22‐27 with winners moving into a two‐game regional on June 1.

Area softball sectional pairings

The area softball sectional draw was announced by the IHSAA on April 28. La Porte faces Penn in a Class 4A Mishawaka Sectional opener, and Michigan City receives a bye and plays Hobart in a Class 4A Chesterton Sectional semifinal. New Prairie gets a bye and meets South Bend Clay in a Class 3A South Bend St. Joseph Sectional semifinal, while LaCrosse plays West Central in a Class A Triton Sectional opener. In the same sectional at Triton, five-time defending sectional-champion South Central receives a bye and faces the host Trojans in a semifinal. In the Class A Westville Sectional, the host Blackhawks meet Morgan Township in an opener, and Marquette gets a bye and plays Washington Township in a Westville Sectional semifinal. Sectionals run May 20‐25 with winners moving into a one‐game regional on May 28.

Briar Leaf Summer Junior Camps

Briar Leaf Golf Club is offering its popular Summer Junior Golf Camps beginning in June. The camps are offered four times in the summer and feature professional swing instruction from PGA Professional Jay Williams and PGA Associate Cody Ward and their staff, as well as on-course play. Beginning juniors can register for the First Swing Program, while experienced golfers may participate in the Players Club. Registration forms are available at Briar Leaf or on the club’s website at briarleaf.com. Early registration is encouraged to insure a spot in the desired week. La Porte Junior Golf Tour

Registration is now open for this summer’s La Porte Junior Golf Tour. Designed for juniors who have on-course playing experience, the tour visits Briar Leaf, Beechwood, Legacy Hills and Michigan City Municipal in a seven-tournament schedule. Players will compete in age groups ranging from eight to 17 years old for both boys and girls. At only $45 for the season, the tour provides a great opportunity for juniors to play at all of the local public golf courses in a tournament atmosphere.
