March 15, 2019

SCRANTON

Emergency crews treated four pets after a fire ripped through a West Side home Thursday evening, fire officials said.

Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke when they responded to 918 Hampton St. about 7:30 p.m., and crews got the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, Assistant Chief Jeff White said. Two adults and a teenager made it out safely, but White was unsure of the status of two dogs and two cats rescued from the home and treated at the scene.

The 2½-story home sustained extensive damage, and a fire inspector will investigate the cause of the fire today, the assistant chief said.
