Southern CT under high wind watch Sunday, Monday
BRIDGEPORT — Strong winds are expected to hit the southern part of the state this weekend, prompting a high wind watch from Sunday evening through Monday evening.
The National Weather Service issued the watch after spotting a system that could cause winds between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible. The high wind watch will be in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday.
“Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees and power lines,” the weather service said. “Scattered power outages are possible.”
Any residents who lose power should call their utility company.
A high wind watch is issued when there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. These wind events mean sustained winds of at least 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or stronger, are expected.
