BOYS SOCCER: Havasu boys top Lee Williams 2-0
The Lake Havasu boys soccer team continued its strong run of play, even without some of its top players, topping Lee Williams 2-0 on Tuesday in Kingman to win their seventh straight contest.
Down four starters in the match, Havasu struggled to find the same smooth form it has shown in the past, but turned to some of its leaders to slug through what their coach called an, “ugly game.”
Gabe Balderrama scored on a header off a corner kick from Axel Gamez and Randy Gallegos played a pass from another forward, dribbled in the box and slid the ball past the Vols keeper, the pair netting a pair of pretty goals in an otherwise choppy game.
“We couldn’t get a whole lot of passing together,” Havasu coach Christina Gibbs said.
“We had a lot of people in that aren’t normally playing together.
“The other team was playing the long ball all night, kicking it forward hoping to get something going. It wasn’t the prettiest game but a win is a win.”
The Knights (10-1-1) now look to avenge their only loss this season, hosting rival Mohave on Tuesday at Lee Barnes Stadium. The T-birds tipped Havasu 2-1 during the Mohave County tournament in December.
“That’s another game we’re looking forward to,” Gibbs said.
