Ferry Tips Over, No Injuries
BREMERHAVEN, West Germany (AP) _ A car ferry crashed into a dock, tipped over and temporarily trapped 21 crewmen and workers on board, police said. Authorities said there were no serious injuries.
Bremerhaven police said the accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. when the 607- foot ferry hit the Seebeck dock in this northwestern port city.
Police spokesman Peter Gusovius said that all 21 crewmen and workers on board were rescued, apparently without injury. He said that some of the people were taken off by helicopter, others by rescue boat.
An earlier statement, based on preliminary information, said that the crewmen were thrown into the water. Spokesman Gusovius, in a telephone interview with The Associated Press, said his information was based on a more complete account of the accident.
Gusovius said no one was missing. He said the ferry was being brought to the dock for repairs and was not carrying any passengers.
Rescue crews in boats and helicopters quickly converged on the scene after the accident. The boat was still listing badly in the Bremerhaven harbor this evening.
