Crowd turns out for Wreaths Across America

December 16, 2018

FLORENCE, S.C. -- More than 100 people turned out Saturday for Wreaths Across America at Florence National Cemetery.

The attendees, after a brief ceremony, placed several thousand wreaths at markers throughout the cemetery.

Included in this year’s event was a Quilts of Valor presentation to members of the Florence Veterans Honor Guard, which followed the wreaths ceremony.

The keynote speaker for this year’s event was WPDE’s Ed Piotrowski whose father, Thomas J. Piotrowski, is a retired U.S. Marine Corps master gunnery sergeant.

Saturday’s event is one of two in which the cemetery is decorated, the other being Memorial Day.

Decoration for Memorial Day 2019 will take place on May 25 at the cemetery and will include a brief ceremony before the flag placing.
