The Rev. Michael Latham Sr., longtime pastor, community leader, dies

The Rev. Michael Latham Sr., longtime pastor of Renaissance Baptist Church and former president of the Fort Wayne branch of the NAACP, died Friday, his family announced today. He was 58.

Latham “was an outstanding leader and pioneer in the Fort Wayne community,” his family said in a statement issued by New Horizon Church, where Latham’s son, Michael Latham Jr., is senior pastor.

Latham served as president of the local NAACP from 1999 until 2008. He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for the 6th District City Council seat in 2011.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later this week, the statement said.
