Fashion boutique owners charged with writing bad checks
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Police in Newport say the husband and wife team who own a fashion boutique have been charged on multiple counts of issuing fraudulent checks.
Newport police say 38-year-old Erin Ribeiro and 51-year-old Thomas Ribeiro entered no plea to the charges on Oct. 25 and were released on bond. The Newport Daily News reports the landlord for their Rib & Rhine fashion shop told police that the Ribeiros sent him five bad checks totaling $11,167 for rent and past-due rent.
Police say the landlord provided documentation stating the checks had insufficient funds. The couple has closed the store down.
Court records say the Ribeiros are due back in court on Jan. 17.
